Birdwatching day tour Forest and Heath,

See the forest and heath birds of western Europe !The area we will go birding will be national nature reserve "The Veluwe" (click here for a map) The park offers a stunning landscape: woodlands, heath, and sanddunes.  In August the heather is in flower and you can enjoy the impressive purple blanket that covers the fields.

Specialties are Long-eared owl, Hawfinch, European Honey Buzzard, Black Woodpecker, Coal Tit, Crested Tit, Wood Lark, Tree Pipit.
September is the red deer’s rutting season. During this period the stags attempt to impress the does with their physical prowess and their formidable mating call known as the ‘troat’

Optional we can visit the 'De Hoge Veluwe'. National Park De Hoge Veluwe is one of the Netherlands' oldest and largest national parks. It consists of no less than 5,500 hectares of woodland, heathland, lakes and driftsand. Together with the Kroller-Muller Museum and the sculpture garden it offers a unique combination of nature, art and architecture. The Hoge Veluwe is made up of around 50% woodland and 50% open land. It is home to a rich and varied world of plants and animals. The wildlife is amazing: red deer, moufflon, roe deer and wild boar can suddenly jump out in front of you. At a number of hides they can often be seen clearly, particularly early in the morning or at sunset.

The Hoge Veluwe is a park where visitors can still find plenty of space and peace. Where you can walk undisturbed for hours, or cycle using one of the free white bicycle. It is home to many endangered plant and animal species. Have you ever come face to face with a red deer, moufflon or roe deer? It can happen at De Hoge Veluwe! Alongside peace and space, there is also a lot to do in the Park. To protect the peacefulnes
s, the activities are concentrated in the central area of the park.

It is possible to combine this tour with a visit to the Kröller-Müller Museum. The Kröller-Müller Museum is world-famous for its large collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh: it features a magnificent selection of his work. The museum also houses impressive works by George Seurat, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger, Piet Mondriaan and many other leading artists.
